Green juice powder is one of my favorite health products because it’s such a cheat code to nutrition. Down a glass and you’ve had most, if not, all of your daily nutrients (depending on the kind you buy). It definitely isn’t meant to replace eating whole fruit and veggies but if you’re not getting the recommended serving every day, it’s a good way to fill in the gaps.
But even with it being some magical cure-all for the nutritionally deficient, not all green powders are created equal. I’ve tried a lot of green juice powders, and some are honestly just not good.
I had the Orgain protein powders in the past and liked them so I figured the Superfood powder couldn’t be so bad, right?
Let’s dive into it:
Taste
First things first, what does it taste like?
Real talk. It tastes like a cinnamon roll. Makes sense because if you look at the ingredients, organic cinnamon is listed right under their organic sprout and ancient grain blend.
Is Cinnamon a Superfood?
Yes! Cinnamon is a superfood. A lot of people think of leafy greens or exotic berries when they think of… but spices have superpowers, too! Here’s why cinnamon is absolutely a superfood, and a delicious one, at that!
- loaded with antioxidants
- balances blood sugar
- fights inflammation
- supports heart health
- fights off bad germs
- naturally flavors food without sugar
My second thought was horchata.
Call me crazy, but I think if you add a little honey or agave to an iced cold glass, you might even forget you’re drinking green juice. It really does taste like some kind of healthy, green horchata or something.
You could even blend the powder with oat milk, ice, and a touch of honey or agave to make it into a smoothie that rivals a blended matcha.
There are 50 superfoods in the formula. Berries, veggies, grains, grasses, you name it. Even with about 11 different fruits in the mix, it isn’t really that sweet at all. Just barely noticeable, like unsweetened almond milk.
Definitely one of the better tasting green juice powders I’ve tried. You don’t really taste any fruits or veggies. Most of the flavor comes from the cinnamon. And maybe just a hint of creaminess.
Consistency
It is a superfood powder with over 50 superfood ingredients in it, but the texture is actually really smooth. They totally nailed the consistency because it’s ultra-fine. Fine enough to accidentally inhale, (don’t ask how I know) so be careful!
The texture can be a tad grainy if you don’t blend it properly. Stirring it with a spoon is like stirring any other powdered drink with a spoon: frustrating. No matter how much you stir, there will still be chunks. I just use a shaker to mix it up, and it always comes out nice and silky smooth.
Speaking of nice and smooth, you know how some green juice powders have a weird thick mouthfeel? This one doesn’t. It isn’t chalky or gritty at all.
If you use 12oz of water like the instructions say, it should come out pretty thin but not watery. Kind of like 2% milk.
The container came with a cute, little measuring cup to scoop out the exact serving size, which is convenient for me to keep track of how much I’m putting in. Which is super convenient if you don’t have a scale or don’t want to eyeball it.
Teeny, tiny note: I like that the measuring scooper has a semi-long handle so I don’t end up getting the powder on my fingers or knuckles, which I am notorious for doing.
The measuring scoop can hold 14grams, so if you ever misplace it, about two level tablespoons will give you the exact same amount.
Price
I purchased the 9.9oz container for $16.35. (Prices may vary, though) You get 20 servings per container. When you divide that by $16.35, you’re paying about $0.82 per serving, which isn’t bad. Especially when you consider your average cafe charges 5x that for an iced coffee.
Overall,
When I opened the container, it wasn't full. More like 65%. But it’s fine because you still get your 20 servings.
It is convenient. Especially on the weekend when I know I’ll be indulging and not thinking about vegetables. It helps me feel less guilty about not getting enough nutrition.
It goes down easy. Yes, it is a green powder but it doesn’t really taste like it. It tastes more like a slightly creamy, cinnamon flavored drink. Kind of like horchata, but healthy and green. I’d even go as far as to say kids might even like it. gasp
